BMW Club of Manitoba Driver Training

The BMW Club of Manitoba is pleased to offer a Car Control Driver Training Clinic that focuses on improving your driving skills while giving you a chance to take your car to the limit.
We’ve teamed up with a local car club that has been running high performance schools for over 20 years and plucked its top instructors to organize and instruct the school. The instructors will give you feedback and show you the proper techniques of the lessons from both the passenger and driver’s seats of your car, which means they will be doing some of the driving in your vehicle to assess the car and your skill with the car.
The BMW Car Control Clinic is open to anyone who holds a valid class 5 license that wants to improve their driving skills or simply to have a little fun with their vehicle. This is a great opportunity for both experienced and inexperienced drivers to learn the limits of themselves and their vehicle in a safe, controlled manner.
This Clinic will help you become a better driver and improve your accident avoidance skills. Some people never turn off the driver aids which can really hinder development of becoming a better driver. In this Clinic you’ll be turning off those driver aids and will be taking your car to your comfortable limit, maybe even a bit beyond!
The Clinic begins with an in-class session, then we hit a mini road course so you can apply the skills you’ve learned in the classroom while having loads of fun. Learning proper seating position, how to control understeer and oversteer, and emergency lane changes are just some of the skills you’ll learn during the in-class session and apply at the mini road course.
Registration is now open and only 20 spots available. Make sure you register early to reserve your spot. If you are a BMW Club member, registration costs will be $120. Cost for non members is $140.
Information about the driver training:

- There will be an in-class session either the morning of or a few days before the event in addition to the full day of driving time you’ll have. You’ll get in lots of driving time and will no doubt be exhausted by the end of the day. You’ll also be a better driver!
- You will be using your own vehicle for the driver training. The vehicle does not have to be a BMW or rear wheel drive. Our instructors are experienced in all types of vehicles.
- The vehicle must pass an inspection by our instructors and the BMW Club. Once you’re registered, an instructor or qualified BMW Club member will meet up with you and inspect your vehicle. We’ll inform you if there will be an inspection day where you can bring your vehicle if a location can’t be organized between you and the inspector. Please ensure your vehicle passes this inspection. If your car is regularly maintained, you should have no problems passing the inspection.
- Here is what we’re looking for when inspecting your vehicle:
- No loose wheel bearings, no loose ball joints, nothing loose, no rattles or excessive play in the suspension or steering
- Brakes in good working order, firm pedal pressure, no leaks
- Tires have measurable tread depth, no cords showing, no cracks or cuts in the tires
- Battery securely fastened, a cover over +12V terminal may be required
- No leaks of any fluids
- Spare tire and other equipment must be securely fastened or removed before the event
- Loose items removed like change, papers and floor mats
- Room for two people (driver and passenger), seats securely fastened

Frequently Asked Questions:
Can my spouse/friend share a car with me?
Yes, we can accommodate two drivers in one car. Each driver must register for the event. It’s takes a bit more swapping seats to take turns but you will get equal instruction.
Do you still have the event if it rains?
We run rain or shine. If it does rain, we recommend you bring a change of clothes and proper rain gear. Rain is actually the best way to learn as it’s easy on the car and there is low traction at low speeds.
My car requires servicing and I don’t have time to fix it before the Clinic. Can I still drive?
As long as your car passes the inspection you may drive your vehicle at the Clinic. Please make sure you car passes inspection prior to the day of the event.
How will the instructor teach me?
Instruction will be a combination of the in-class session, driving your own vehicle to receive feedback and the instructor driving your vehicle to show you how you should be approaching the lesson. Our instructors are very friendly and very experienced drivers. If you feel uncomfortable with the instructor’s speed, tell him and he will drive at a level you’re comfortable with. Just remember you won’t learn as much if you don’t take the vehicle to the limit.
I don’t want anyone to drive my car. What do I do?
An instructor must drive your car to assess the limits of the vehicle. Without that assessment, the instructors cannot give you feedback based on your driving. Also, you won’t be taking full advantage of the Clinic and won’t gain a lot if the instructor doesn’t drive. If you’re still not comfortable with this, please contact the BMW Club.
Can you explain the cost of registration?
We are trying hard to keep costs down and offer an experience you’ll never forget. For $120-$140, you will be getting a 1:5 instructor:student ratio, classroom instruction, driver observation from the passenger seat and lots of driving time, with feedback on your driving from the instructor in the passenger seat. This cost will cover all the rental equipment, insurance, site rental and instructors. If you compare these prices to other schools, you’ll see you’re getting a bargain.
What do I do after I register?
The registration will be confirmed via an email confirmation sent to you. You will also be sent a registration package outlining some of the details for the school, contact information and date of the in-class session.
I have more questions. Who do I contact?
You can contact the BMW Club at info@bmwpower.ca or call Jeremy, BMW Club President, directly at 981-8057.
