Love it or hate it? Sometimes thought of as the forgotten E36, the 318ti is sort of a Frankenstein creation of what seems like E36 parts and leftover E30 parts. The first thing you’ll notice about the ti is its lack of rear overhang and the hatchback style tailgate. This is what sets this particular E36 apart visually from its counterparts. As a result of the shorter backend, the E36/5 made use of a smaller semi-trailing arm rear axle from the E30. This design of the trailing arm suspension resulted in a car that tended to oversteer rather than understeer - fun for some and dangerous for others.
The interior of the ti is pretty much the same as other E36s except for one obvious difference - the dashboard. The dashboard is a simpler one piece design that shares the same gauge cluster as the other cars. It is flatter and straighter across than the other models and not as ergonomically designed. Some of the lines of the dash seem to have been pulled from the older E30 as well...
